인도에서 빈민구제활동을 벌여 ‘전세계 빈민들의 어머니’로 불리던 테레사 수녀<사진>가 97년 선종(善終)하기 몇달 전 심장질환으로 입원해 있던 병원에서 악령을 내쫓는 ‘구마(驅魔·exorcism)’ 의식을 받은 적이 있다고, AP가 6일 인도 콜카타 대주교의 말을 인용해 전했다.
앙리 드수자(D’Souza) 대주교는 “테레사 수녀가 의학적 원인을 찾을 수 없는 불면증에 시달렸기 때문에 악마의 공격을 받고 있을지도 모르겠다고 생각했다”며 “교회의 이름으로 악령을 쫓는 기도(exorcism prayer)를 행하겠다고 제안하자, 그분도 흔쾌히 수락했다”고 말했다. 드수자 대주교는 “절대 악마가 들린 것은 아니었다”며 “성인(聖人)도 인간적인 면을 갖고 있는 것이 당연하고, 이는 하느님께 더 가까웠음을 보여주는 것”이라고 말했다. 그는 또 테레사 수녀의 시성(諡聖) 절차에는 아무런 영향이 없을 것이라고 강조했다.

감리교 목사이면서 감신대학원에서 신학박사 학위 과정 중에 있는 어떤 이가 "그러므로 칼빈이나 쯔빙글리, 심지어는 18세기 합리주의의 시대속에서 옥스포드를 통해 지성을 닦은 웨슬리 조차도 마1:25를 ‘마리아 영구 동정설’로 인정했다는 주장에 대해서는 좀 더 자세히 알아봐야 할 것 같습니다."라고 말했다.
이것이 바로 우리 한국 개신교의 지적 도덕적 영적 수준의 한 단면을 잘 보여주고 있다. 히브리어와 헬라어의 문법상 "...할 때까지...하지 않았다"가 반드시 그후에는 그 일이나 사건이 이루어지거나 성취되었다는 것을 나타내는 것은 아니다. 데오토코스(하느님을 낳은 여인) 동정녀 마리아님의 "영구 동정성"을 부정하는 이들은 바로 이것을 곡해하여 그들의 이론과 주장을 거짓 선전해 오고 있고 작금 한국 개신교계의 거의 모두가 이것을 그대로 따르고 있다.

The Perpetual Virginity of Blessed Mary Against Helvidius.
"This tract appeared about a.d. 383. The question which gave occasion to it was whether the Mother of our Lord remained a Virgin after His birth. Helvidius maintained that the mention in the Gospels of the "sisters" and "brethren" of our Lord was proof that the Blessed Virgin had subsequent issue, and he supported his opinion by the writings of Tertullian and Victorinus. The outcome of his views was that virginity was ranked below matrimony. Jerome vigorously takes the other side, and tries to prove that the "sisters" and "brethren" spoken of, were either children of Joseph by a former marriage, or first cousins, children of the sister of the Virgin. A detailed account of the controversy will be found in Farrar's "Early Days of Christianity," pp. 124 sq. When Jerome wrote this treatise both he and Helvidius were at Rome, and Damasus was Pope. The only contemporary notice preserved of Helvidius is that by Jerome in the following pages."

한국 천주교에서 쫓겨나서 성공회대 초빙교수로 간 정양모 신부는 "(ㅂ)"그녀와 동침하지 않고 지냈다"(25a절)는 의역이고 직역하면 "그녀를 알아보지 않았다"이다. 25a절을 우리 말 역문으로 읽으면, 요셉은 마리아가 예수를 낳은 다음에는 그녀와 동침했다는 인상을 받을 것이다. 그러나 히브리어, 아람어, 그리스어에서는 "... 때까지... 않았다"라 하면 뒷날 그런 일이 생겼다는 것을 의미하지 않는다. 아울러 주석의 상식에 따라 문맥을 고려하여 25a절을 풀이해야 한다. 앞 문맥을 보면 마태오는 마리아가 처녀의 몸으로 예수를 잉태하고 낳았다는 데 관심을 쏟았을 뿐, 예수 탄생 후에 양친이 성관계를 맺었는지 아닌지에 관해서는 흥미조차 갖지 않았다."(39쪽 한국 천주교회 200주년 신약성서 마태오 복음서 정양모 역주 분도출판사) 라고 말하면서 마리아님이 주 예수님의 출산 후 요셉과의 성관계를 통해서 자녀들을 더 두었는지, 두지 않았는지도 신비라고 말한다.
1977년 8월 15일에 나는 하느님을 믿기로 결심했었다. 그후 많은 사이비 이단을 거의 직접 겪어보았다. 사이비 이단을 많이 겪으면서 그 와중 속에서 정통 신앙을 조금씩 조금씩 알게 되었다. 사이비 이단은 정통을 흉내낸다. 즉 짝퉁인 셈이다. 그런데 짝퉁도 수준이 높은 것이 있고, 낮은 것도 있다. 나는 92년 휴거 시한부 종말론(이장림), 서달석, 이송오, 김기동, 나주 가짜 마리아교 윤홍선 율리아 교주, 강춘오, 이흥선, 이재록, 김홍도, 이초석 등을 직 간접적으로 겪어보았다. 그런데 여기 윤홍선 교주를 빼고는 모두가 주 예수님의 모친 동정녀 마리아의 '영원한 동정성'(perpetual virginity)을 부정한다. 희안하게도 이 문제에 있어서만큼은 모두가 한 입을 모아 한 목소리로 외쳐댄다. 통일교 문선명 교주, 전도관 박태선 교주, 섹스교 정명석 교주도 위와 같은 주장을 한다.
